Why Apple Might be Launching a Smaller Version of the iPad

You have probably already heard the rumors of the Apple iPad Mini but let us take a look at why Apple launching a 7 or 8 inch tablet will make a lot of sense.

While Steve Jobs was alive, he continually dismissed the 7 inch tablet concept deeming the size too small for properly enjoying work and media applications. But as eBook readers and Kindle sales have shown, the 7 inch size is ideal for reading eBooks. Apple is missing out on an entire market with the 7 inch tablet eBook readers.

Why Apple Might be Launching a Smaller Version of the iPad

Basically, the 7 inch size is just a lot more portable than the 10 inch tablet. So if one is to take a device with himself on trips to read books and watch movies, the 7 inch device makes a lot more sense. Furthermore, when you already have a 7 inch eBook reader, you simply prefer that to watch movies over your existing smartphone since the phone will have smaller screen.

Why Apple Might be Launching a Smaller Version of the iPad

Take the Samsung 7.7, for instance; it is much more portable than the iPad and market trends show that customers might actually prefer it over the iPad – that is something to think about while trying to understand why Apple wants to block the sale of Samsung tablet in the United States.

While the 7 or 8 inch tablet might be a tad bit too small for actual productivity applications, most iPad users only use the device for visual applications and entertainment i.e. multimedia. For them, the increased portability of a smaller tablet will be welcomed with open arms.

The rumors this time around make a lot more sense and with Steve Jobs no longer to veto the 7 inch tablet idea, Apple’s iPad Mini might actually materialized. We all just have to wait till October and see.
